The Director General of NOSDRA received delegates from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Washington Office led by Malick Haidara, Senior Energy and Climate Advisor and Dr. Bala Bappa, Country’s Short Leaved Climate Change Pollutant Consultants on July 12th, 2023.
The essence of that meeting was to discuss further on the role of NOSDRA in Gas Flare in Nigeria, efforts that the Agency has put in place to ensure that Nigeria achieves the objective towards net zero and its effort so far to assist in getting necessary data for the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) of Nigeria to Global warming. This visit also enabled the Agency to discuss further on areas of cooperation such as the need to get assistance from USAID in respect of the current pilot project of Methane Emission Tracker.
The meeting also discussed possibility of expanding the existing Gas Flare Tracker by way of moving from free source to paid source. The paid source will give us the opportunity to investigate further and then navigate further on whatever we get from the free source which is currently used by everybody including the World Bank. The delegates assured the Agency of its’ support in these two areas viz Methane Emission Monitoring as well as improvement on the Gas Flare Tracker.
