The visit by the US Consulate in Nigeria on July 12th, 2023 was led by kenise Hill, the Deputy Chief Political and Economic Section in Lagos. The purpose of the visit was to discuss with NOSDRA on areas of collaborations as a further effort to actualize what was started last year viz a viz training of staff which was done virtually. Resource persons were nominated in the United States of America. The training lasted for five weeks. In this particular exercise and visit, discussions on further capacity building opportunities, technical assistance in respect of tool kits for field activities, as well as understanding better the situation with respect to the clean-up of Ogoni land. NOSDRA is playing a very strategic role in the clean-up of Ogoni land by way of monitoring the cleanup, as well as certifying the remediated impacted sites. NOSDRA has assured the Consulate delegates that it is willing to collaborate with it more to ensure that there is better understanding of the role of the Agency in the management of environmental issues, compliance enforcement in the petroleum sector in Nigeria as well as its role in the cleanup of Ogoni land.
