Adesida, Margaret Olushola, the Director (ICT/GIS), is a female Nigerian citizen from Kogi State with over 30 years of experience in Environmental Management and Information Communication Technology in the Federal Civil Service of Nigeria.
Margaret holds two Master of Science (MSc) degrees: one in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from the University of Lagos, Akoka, and the other in Microbiology (Industrial Options) from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Her undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Microbiology (Second Class Lower) from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Nigeria.
Adesida is a Certified Project Management Professional, Microsoft System Engineer, and Certified in Internet Protocol. She also completed a Diploma in Sustainable Development through online training at Alison Courses in 2012.
Margaret is actively involved in several professional organizations and affiliations, including the Nigerian Environmental Society, the Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals, the Waste Management Society of Nigeria (as a chartered member), and is also an honorary member of the Institute of Information Management, among others.
She has strong organizational and managerial skills. Additionally, she is proficient in technical and environmental areas such as health, safety, and environmental issues, data acquisition, GIS analysis and its applications, baseline studies evaluation, solid waste management, supervision/review of environmental impact assessment processes, risk assessment analysis, oil spill contingency planning/response, organization/coordination of stakeholder meetings and workshops, facility integrity monitoring, and community relations. She also possesses technical/ICT skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, as well as expertise in various software such as ArcView, ArcMap 10, Freehand, Idrisi, ERDAS Imagine, and Map Info. Margaret is also adept at delivering excellent presentations using PowerPoint and posters.
She has held various positions of increasing responsibility and leadership in the environmental sector. She started as an Environmental Officer/Scientist 1 in the Environmental Assessment Division/Lands Environment Urban Regional Planning Department at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing before moving to the Oil and Gas Division, Environmental Impact Assessment Department of the Federal Ministry of Environment. She also worked in the Oil Field Assessment, Policy Planning Analysis, and Research Departments of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency.
She is the pioneering head of the Information Communication Technology/Geographic Information Systems Unit. With her innovative skills and drive, the agency’s ICT/GIS has continued to grow and has attained several recognition, awards, and commendations from both the government and private sectors.
