Director Special Duties

Mr. John Elisha Lahu had his first degree in Agricultural Meteorology and Water Management from the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta graduating with a First Class. He also holds a Master of Science Degree (M.Sc) in Environmental Management (Merit) from the University of Surrey, UK.

He has over 34 years’ experiencein different capacities in the public sector. He started his career in 1984as Lecturer in Irrigation and Drainage, Kaduna State School of Agriculture. In 1990, he moved to the Ministry of Water Resources, Kaduna as Project Manager and progressed to the position of Deputy Director, Irrigation Services. In 2009, Mr. Lahu moved to the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) as Assistant Director in the Oil Field AssessmentDepartment, and in January 2018, he was promoted to the position of Director, and assigned to Special Duties Unit.

Mr. Lahu has served in very important ad-hoc capacities, twice as Special Assistant (Technical) to the Honourable Minister of Environment (2012-2013/2014-2015) and also as Member, Presidential Technical Committee on the report submitted by the Special Committee on Cross River State Complaints on Attribution of Oil Wells/Fields and the effects of Oil and Gas Exploration and Exploitation on the state.

He has attended several oil spill and environmental related trainings, Workshops and seminars both locally and internationally. He is a Member of International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) and Member, Nigerian Environmental Society (NES).

John Elisha Lahu has to his merit, several Academic and Service Achievement Awards, amongst which are Overall Best Graduating Student, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, 1995, and Winner of British Chevening Scholarship Award, 2005.

He was born on 5th September, 1961 and hails from Kaduna State. He is married with children.
