The Director General of National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) Mr Idris Musa and some members of the Management staff paid a courtesy visit to the Senate committee on Wednesday, 15th May, 2019 at the Red Chambers of National Assembly in Abuja.

In her opening remarks, Senator Oluremi Tinubu congratulated the DG NOSDRA on his appointment adding that the senate worked closely with the previous DG and they are glad that the new DG has adequate knowledge on the environment as well as the oil and gas sector. She spoke on the amendment of the NOSDRA Bill, saying that the bill has been rejected and they are trying to see what can be done. She said the committee is willing to provide support to ensure the work is easier and the mandate of NOSDRA is achieved.

In his response, the DG NOSDRA Mr Idris Musa said his visit is to appreciate the senate committee for the effort put into passing the bill adding that before now the bill had not got this far. He also appreciated the visit of the Senate to the site in Port Harcourt.

The DG NOSDRA briefed the committee on the Ogoni clean up saying it has provided work opportunities for the youths in the area. He said NOSDRA is responsible for the evaluation and certification of the 21 companies presently working on site in the ongoing Ogoni clean up exercise.

He assured the committee of the readiness of NOSDRA to play a major role in achieving it's mandate and anticipates the support of the senate as the Agency will be focusing of the mid-stream and down-stream sectors of the petroleum industry.
