Nigeria International Oil Spill Summit 2013

As part of the coordinated measures being undertaken by the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency to ensure preventive, proactive and palliative response to matters relating to environmental degradation, National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) is planning to hold this  three day Summit for all stakeholders in the Nigerian oil and gas sector.

The Summit would focus on how the oil and gas operators should take necessary safety precautions to prevent oil spillage and similar disasters that have arisen in Nigeria and other places, like the Gulf of Mexico.

The prevention of such disaster has become imperative as this has serious implications for the environment, communities and even the oil companies. The aftermath of flagrant delay by the oil companies will continue to create substantial furore in the country.

Participants cut across the industry operators and international bodies. It is an opportunity to review our operations. Are we doing it right? Or is there anything we are doing wrong?  And how all parties concerned can agree to fast track mitigation processes. The Summit will also focus on how best to commit and realise corporate social responsibilities function of operating oil conglomerates.

The Summit  intends to create awareness in environmental protection and control and promote sustainable development in the oil industry in line with requirements of the global climate change initiatives.
